Now’s the Time!
It’s been quite a week for Planned Parenthood and our North Carolina activists. Earlier this week the Planned Parenthood Truth Tour and their big, hot pink bus rolled into our state making stops at UNC-G and UNC-Chapel Hill before heading to the NC General Assembly for a rally outside the Legislative building! More than 70 activists attended joined by local and national PP staff and about a dozen legislators proudly standing with Planned Parenthood! Check out photos from the NC events via the Truth Tour blog and on our Facebook page.
Yesterday’s rally and demonstration of support was just what we all needed during an extremely difficult legislative session in NC operating under the new anti-choice majority. Unfortunately the heat is on at the federal level as well so the Planned Parenthood Truth Tour is on the move again heading back to Washington, DC for tomorrow’s National Lobby Day. Bright and early tomorrow morning another bus (sadly it won’t be hot pink) will be leaving NC full of local activists on their way to DC to Stand with Planned Parenthood and demand that their elected officials do the same!
Over the past two months we’ve written a lot about the I Stand with Planned Parenthood campaign. This campaign launched immediately following the U.S. House of Representatives vote to de-fund Planned Parenthood through Title X which provides low-cost preventative health care including birth control, annual exams and lifesaving cancer and HIV screenings for millions of low-income Americans each year.
Now the fight is really on. The Senate is expected to take up the federal budget this week. In order to stop a federal government shut-down, a budget must be approved this week. The anti-choice members of Congress who forced the bill through to cut funding for women’s health were very clear about their goals. They want to shut down every Planned Parenthood health center in the country — even if that means cutting off millions of women from care they have no other way to afford.
It’s up to the Senate to stop this assault on Planned Parenthood and women’s health — and this could be our last chance to make sure they do.
Call your Senators now and tell them to STOP the attack on women’s health. Call 202-559-1164 or click here for talking points (right-hand column) and to be connected directly to your Senators offices.
It’s now or never! Make the call for women’s health!
