I have 2 stories to share as a staff person at PPCNC:
My husband googled my name and professional title and the first thing that popped up was a very eloquent and kind review from a patient on yelp. It really touched me that a patient took the time to write a review of me and that it was so thoughtful and positive! I really love to talk to and treat patients and it meant so much to me that a patient recognized that. It is such a rewarding experience when a patient walks out the door feeling calmer, relieved and with a smile on his or her face. I feel blessed to be in a job where patients trust me, and where I feel that I can impact their lives in a positive way.
It is always especially rewarding to form relationships with returning patients. There was one patient who came in with her partner for ongoing medical problems over many months. She initially was very defensive and even dressed in extreme clothes and make-up in an effort to distance herself. She did not have health insurance and clearly had tremendous stress in her life. Over time, she began to feel more comfortable here and to trust us. She ended her relationship with her partner, changed jobs and got health insurance. She came into the office alone and revealed that she had been in an abusive relationship with her last partner, but that she was safe in her current situation. Her demeanor and even clothes and make-up changed, and she was visibly happier. Any barriers had dropped. It was wonderful to be able to participate in her care, gain her trust, and see her make so many positive changes in her own life.
